In the fifth video in our series about Life in the Algarve we visit Silves, a wonderfully charming city right in the rural heart of the Algarve. Silves is a particularly popular part of the Algarve with those who want to be somewhere with an energetic atmosphere, but away from the swathes of tourist crowds that some of the seaside resorts attract.
Its elevated position means there are plenty of spots where you can look out over magnificent views of the surrounding countryside. Silves’ close proximity to a range of different nature trails, the Monchique mountains and the Arade river also makes it particularly popular with those you enjoy exploring the outdoors.
Silves is a stop along the Al-Mu'tamid route, which runs along two trajectories from Lisbon to Seville and Lisbon to Granada. The route follows in the steps of Al-Mu'tamid, the poet and ancient governer of Silves, showcasing the heritage of Al'Andalus.
In this video, we show you around the historic centre and share information about the area’s past. We also take you through some of the newer areas of the city and take you all the way to the coastal city of Armação de Pêra, right at the edge of the municipality of Silves.
Join us as we delve into the rich history of this part of Portugal, showcase its picturesque natural landscapes and give you a glimpse into the daily life of this beautiful part of the Algarve. You can watch the video here and check out the properties we have in the area in our portfolio, or by getting in touch with our team directly.
